Governor Steve Beshear escaped without Democratic primary opposition, but three Republicans want his job – Senate President David Williams, Louisville businessman Phil Moffett and Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw.
Moffett and Williams took part in a candidates forum at the Kentucky Press Association convention. It also included independent gubernatorial candidate Gatewood Galbraith.
Holsclaw has been mulling a bid for some time. She says she would stand a good chance in the GOP primary against both businessman Phil Moffett and Senate President David Williams, and she hasn’t given much thought to the general election.
The 2011 governor’s race in Kentucky now includes a Republican ticket. Louisville businessman Phil Moffett announced his bid Thursday afternoon.
