Council Will Vote On President Thursday

The Louisville Metro Council will elect a new president tomorrow.

The Louisville Metro Council will elect a new president tomorrow.

Eighth-district Democrat Tom Owen has his party’s support and therefore a majority of the votes, but Republican Ken Fleming is still considering a run. Fleming is expected to make a decision before the council’s meeting and election Thursday.

If elected, Owen would be the fourth consecutive Democrat to hold the council presidency currently held by David Tandy.

Democratic Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh had considered running for the presidency, but decided against it after endorsing Tyler Allen in the Louisville mayor’s race.

Two Republicans have been elected council president since the city/county merger in 2003.
