GE Discusses Appliance Park's Future With Local Leaders

Local and state government officials say they’re prepared to work with the potential buyer of General Electric’s appliance divison to keep the operation in Louisville.

GE officials confirmed Friday morning that that the company is getting out of the appliance business.

Mayor Jerry Abramson said after a meeting with GE executives that there’s apparently no hard timetable in place to auction or spin off the division.

“I think its pretty flexible at this point. obviously its going to take time to prepare their management presentation. it’s going to take time for those companies that are interested in either being partners or joint venturing, or whatever, to go through the whole data review,” Abramson said.

About 5,000 people are employed at GE’s Appliance Park in Louisville. Abramson and other officials also met with union leaders from the plant.
