Police Chief Selection Forum Set For South Louisville

A second forum for public input on the selection process for Louisvilleā€™s next police chief will be held tomorrow evening. It follows a public forum last week in west Louisville.

The next meeting is at 6:00pm at the South Louisville Community Center on Taylor Boulevard.

Mayor Greg Fischer is launching a search for a successor to Robert White, who leaves this week to head the Denver Police Department.

Former Kentucky Justice Cabinet Secretary Ishmon Burks will serve as interim chief until a permanent replacement is appointed.

A third forum on the selection process will be held December 17 in Old Louisville.

Fischer Hopes For Fresh Start With LMPD

The FOP and the mayor’s office were previously at odds on a number of issues, most recently whether officers can be made to pay to use their police vehicles while off-duty. The case has been appealed several times, but Fischer says out-of-court negotiations with the FOP will begin this week.

Fischer Transition Team Reviewing Employees, Budget

Fischer said earlier this month that he will essentially ask all of the department heads to re-apply for their jobs. Last week, his team sent letters to those employees asking them for information, including their resumes. Fischer says he’s not sure when any decisions will be made on who to retain.
