Albarado Pleads Not Guilty to Assault

by Rick Howlett on May 8, 2012

Jockey Robby Albarado has pleaded not guilty to an assault charge. The veteran rider is charged in an alleged case of domestic violence.

Albarado’s attorney, Scott Barton, entered the plea today in Jefferson District Court to the misdemeanor charge. A July trial date was set. The jockey was arrested Friday and charged with fourth-degree assault for allegedly accosting a woman who said she was trying to break up with him.

Albarado’s arrest came hours before he was to ride in the Kentucky Oaks. He was indefinitely suspended from racing at Churchill Downs, where he’s third on the all-time jockey wins list.

The 39 year old Albarado was charged with domestic assault last year in an incident involving his estranged wife, but the charge was dismissed.
