New Super PAC Will Help McConnell Re-Election

by admin on April 5, 2012

A Covington-based Super PAC has formed to aid Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., in his 2014 re-election bid.

According to CN2, Bluegrass Votes intends to reinforce the GOP leader’s campaign with independent expenditures. Following the Supreme Court’s controversial Citizens United ruling, Super PACs are allowed to raise and spend unlimited funds in support of a candidate as long as the organization does not coordinate with the candidate’s campaign.

Though two years away, McConnell’s re-election campaign already has an impressive war chest. He ended last year with $4.2 million and raised more than $1 million in the final quarter. It is expected that¬†McConnell will raise well over $25 million to scare off any potential challengers¬†whether in the Republican primary or the general election.
