Reid ♥ McConnell

by admin on March 22, 2012

Speaking at a Bipartisan Policy Center event, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nv., wants people to know that despite public perception he and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., get along fabulously.

Evoking McConnell’s idol, Henry Clay, the Democratic leader told the crowd there is even an attempt to foster more cooperation and compromise between the two parties in Congress’ upper chamber. Reid says that he and his Republican counterpart “have a very warm personal relationship” and are actually—gasp!—friends.

From Politico:

Mitch McConnell. I know that people talk about Mitch McConnell and Harry Reid: ‘They’re always up there fighting with each other. ‘ But Mr. McConnell and I have a very warm personal relationship. We are friends. We do things for each other as much as we can and it’s more often than people think.

So Mitch McConnell and I are in the, working in a situation the Founding Fathers set up for us. And it’s, times are difficult now, but it’s all going to be fine. The glass is really half full, it’s not half empty. We’re going to work our way through all of these issues. We, of course all, we know — and that’s the reason for this event — we need more bipartisan cooperation and less partisan competition. And we’re working on that in our own way.

No word if either are willing to discuss calls for reforms to Senate procedures, such as the filibuster.
