Bellarmine Returns To Action in NCAA Elite Eight

by Rick Howlett on March 20, 2012

Play resumes tomorrow evening in the men’s NCAA Division II basketball tournament as the Bellarmine Knights pursue a second straight national title.

The Knights have advanced to the Elite Eight round without the services of starting forward Luke Sprague for the last two games. Sprague’s status has been game-to-game since he injured his shoulder in the tournament opener.

Bellarmine faces Alabama-Huntsville in the quarterfinals. The Chargers are riding a 20-game winning streak.

The Elite Eight round of the Division Two tournament is being played at Northern Kentucky University.

Bellarmine is trying to become the first team to repeat as national champion since Cal State-Bakersfield did it in 1993 and ’94.

Tipoff is at 6:00pm Wednesday.
