Indiana Smoking Ban Wins Final Legislative Approval

by Rick Howlett on March 9, 2012

The Indiana Senate has given final approval to a statewide smoking ban.

The measure now goes to Governor Mitch Daniels for his expected signature.

The Senate approved the bill today by a vote of 28 to 22. It contains exemptions for bars, casinos, private clubs and other facilities.

The House passed the compromise measure last night.

The American Cancer Society and other groups had urged lawmakers to vote against the bill because it contains so many loopholes.

Passage of the bill came on the final day of the 2012 legislative session.
