Louisville Police Give Demonstrators Space at Yum Center

by Devin Katayama on February 29, 2012

Louisville Metro police say they’re providing space for Occupy Louisville members to demonstrate Wednesday at the KFC Yum Center.

Occupy Louisville is joining other Occupy movements around the country in demonstrating against the American Legislative Exchange Council, or ALEC. The organization promotes limited government and conservative models for legislation in Congress.

Occupy Louisville spokeswoman Pam Newman says this may be the most important demonstration of the next few months, considering Occupy’s mission against the influence of money in politics.

At an Occupy Louisville demonstration this past weekend, five demonstrators were arrested, but Newman says she doesn’t expect tonight’s demonstration to excel to that level.

City officials say police will be in the area but refused to give specifics about whether additional staff will be on-hand during the demonstrations.

The University of Louisville men’s basketball team plays their final game of the season against the University of South Florida at the Yum Center. Tip off is at 7:04.
