Centre College Lands 2012 VP Debate

by Rick Howlett on October 31, 2011

The Commission on Presidential Debates has again chosen Danville’s Centre College to host a debate between the vice-presidential nominees.

The commission announced today that the 2012 event will be held October 11 at the school’s Norton Center for the Arts.

Centre spokesman Michael Strysick says logistical preparations are underway.

“We really considered today the first day of what’s going to be almost a year of effort. When we were privileged to host the debate in 2000, it was about a twelve- month cycle as well.”

The 2000 debate pitted Democrat Joe Lieberman against Republican Dick Cheney.

The commission also announced the sites of the three presidential debates in 2012. They’ll be held in Denver, at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York and at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida.

Eastern Kentucky University, which has a new arts center, was among a dozen schools that vied to land a presidential debate.
