Zoeller Sues Former Public Workers To Recover Missing Funds

by Rick Howlett on October 4, 2011

Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller has filed a civil suit against the former court clerk in Merrillville, seeking repayment of more than $310,000 she’s accused of diverting.

Lisa Crenshaw was responsible for collecting bond money posted by defendants to be released from jail. An audit alleges that during a five year period, Crenshaw diverted the money and concealed the loss by entering incorrect bond amounts in court records.

Zoeller’s suit also seeks damages, attorneys fees and interest.

It’s the third suit Zoeller has filed over the past week seeking to recover funds allegedly misappropriated by public employees. The other actions were filed in Morgan and Clay counties.

Criminal charges have been brought in one of the cases and investigations continue in the others.
