Cards Regain Governor’s Cup, 24-17

by Rick Howlett on September 17, 2011

Freshman Teddy Bridgewater threw for two touchdown passes as the Louisville Cardinals defeated the Kentucky Wildcats 24-17 tonight in Lexington.

The win snapped the Cards’ four-game losing streak to UK in their annual battle for the Governor’s Cup.

Bridgewater was called upon in the first half to replace junior quarterback Will Stein, who left the game with a shoulder injury.    Stein also threw an early touchdown pass.

Both teams are now 2-1 on the season.

In other action, Indiana picked up its first win of the season, defeating South Carolina State 38-21 in Bloomington.
