The son of former Kentucky Governor Julian Carroll died Sunday after being injured in a traffic accident in Franklin County.

47-year-old Bradley Carroll was pronounced dead at Frankfort Regional Medical Center, where he was taken after the wreck.

From the Lexington Herald-Leader:

The crash occurred about 12:15 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 421 near the Versailles Road overpass. Carroll’s 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac was traveling south on the road when it left the right side of the road for unknown reasons and struck the overpass’s embankment head-on, said Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Russ Persons. Carroll’s vehicle was deflected off the embankment, traveled across two lanes of the road and struck a concrete median. The vehicle then caught fire.

Two passersby pulled Carroll from the vehicle alive. He was taken to the Frankfort hospital, where he died.

Julian Carroll now serves as a Democratic state Senator representing parts of Franklin, Fayette, Woodford and Anderson counties.
