Williams Claims GOP Gubernatorial Nomination

by Rick Howlett on May 17, 2011

Kentucky Senate President David Williams is the Republican nominee for governor in the November election.

With 87 percent of the state’s precincts reporting, Williams had 47 percent of the vote. Louisville businessman Phil Moffett had 39 percent, with Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw getting 14 percent of the vote.

Wiliams and running mate Richie Farmer will face incumbent Democrat Steve Beshear and running mate Jerry Abramson in the November election. Abramson, a longtime Louisville mayor, joined the ticket after current Lt. Governor Dan Mongiardo dropped out in order to run for U.S. Senate.
