It’s official. University of Alabama at Birmingham provost Eli Capilouto has been elected the University of Kentucky’s 12th president. Today the board of trustees unanimously voted to offer the preferred candidate a contract. Capilouto says he has this message for current and potential UK students.

“We are going to do everything in our power to make sure that you get a quality education. We will also try to do it in a way that makes this key to your future, one that is affordable,” he says.

At the same meeting, the board voted 13 to 6 to raise undergraduate tuition an additional six percent. Several members voiced concern that annual tuition hikes have already put the dream of a college education out of reach for an increasing number of students.
