by Rick Howlett on March 13, 2011

The pairings are set for this week’s men’s NCAA basketball tournament, with U of L opening play against Morehead State

The fourth-seeded Cards and number 13 Eagles will square off Thursday in the Southwest Region in Denver.

“We’ve got a very, very tough opener, as we did two years ago (when U of L faced Morehead State in 2009 in Dayton, Ohio). We know Morehead State is very tough. We’ll just take it one game at a time and go right to work on Morehead State. We’re very pleased to be going anywhere in the NCAA Tournament and we’re very excited,” U of L Coach Rick Pitino said in a statement.

The Kentucky Wildcats also open play Thursday. UK is seeded fourth in the East Region and will play Princeton—a 13 seed—in Tampa, Florida.

Kentucky won its 27th Southeastern Conference title Sunday afternoon, defeating Florida.

Indiana State is making its first NCAA Tournament appearance in a decade. The 13th-seeded Sycamores will take on number four seed Syracuse Friday in Cleveland. Also representing the Hoosier State in the tournament will be Notre Dame, Butler and Purdue.

The women’s NCAA pairings will be announced Monday night.
