Goodwill Reports Hike In Job Seekers, New Shoppers

by Rick Howlett on December 30, 2010

Officials with Goodwill Industries of Kentucky say it’s been a busy year for the organization.

Among other things, Goodwill provides job training and placement for people with disabilities or other barriers to employment.

Spokesperson Heather Hise says job placements numbered more than 1,600 during fiscal 2010, a 24 percent increase over the previous year.

“Obviously we are seeing more people coming through our doors, looking for employment services, job training opportunities, that type of thing. Because of the economy, there’s just so many more people out there looking. But at the same time, I think one reason our placements have gone up so much over last year is that we added a number of programs this year,” she said.

Goodwill now operates 58 donation and retail centers in 38 Kentucky counties. The organization expects to open three more centers in 2011.
