A Louisvlle Metro Police Officer is hospitalized in fair condition after he was shot Tuesday night in the Portland neighborhood.
LMPD officials say two plainclothes officers were on a burglary detail when they got a call about a man with a gun walking along 33rd Street. The man opened fire when the officers pulled up in their unmarked vehicle.
One of the officers was struck once in the back. His partner returned fire as the suspect fled, but he was not struck. He was arrested nearby a short time later.
The injured officer is in fair condition at University Hospital after undergoing surgery overnight. Police Chief Robert White tells the Courier-Journal that he’s expected to make a full recovery.
The names of the officers and the suspect were not immediately released.
