The University of Louisville football program has accepted a bid to play in the Beef O’Brady’s Bowl December 21 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The Cards will take on Southern Mississippi.
It’s Louisville’s first bowl appearance since 2006, when the Cards won the Orange Bowl.
First year coach Charlie Strong’s team finished the regular season with a 6-6 record.
“We are thrilled to be traveling to the Beef O’Brady’s Bowl,” Athletic Director Tom Jurich said in a statement. “It’s a great accomplishment to reach a bowl game in Charlie’s first year here. He and our team have worked hard and done a terrific job getting us to this stage. I know our fans will be excited to follow this team to St. Petersburg. It’s in the heart of a strong recruiting base for us and we have a very active alumni group in that area. Southern Mississippi has an excellent team and is an institution in which we have great respect. We have many friends there from the competition we’ve had over the years.”
Southern Miss finished with an 8-4 record.
The University of Kentucky (6-6) also accepted a bowl bid. The Wildcats will play Pittsburgh (7-5)
January 8th in the BBVA Compass Bowl in Birmingham, Alabama. It will be UK’s fifth straignt bowl appearance.
