Highland and Ridgewood Baptist Churches will have simultaneous services Sunday to honor victims who have died this year as a result of violence.

Joe Phelps, Pastor of Highland Baptist, says the services begin at noon.

“We will have a cross for every life that has been taken in our community in 2010. We’ll read their names at the end of the service and ask a member to take the cross and proceed to the front lawn and place them into the front lawn where they’ll remain until the end of the year,” he said.

Phelps says there are 54 names that will be read at each church. He says he hopes to raise awareness of the problem of violence in the community.

The services are open to the public.
