Seven candidates are vying for 2 contested positions on the Jefferson County School Board.

Today, the Jefferson County Association of School Administrators, the League of Women Voters and the Greater Louisville Alliance of Black School Educators will hear from the candidates on issues such as diversity, the new student assignment plan and initiatives involving the mayor’s office and JCPS.

“We need the public to be engaged in what’s happening in our schools and not just when they see test scores, but engaged in the process of what’s going on, what’s happening in our schools,” said Alliance President Dr. Geneva Price.

Price says the public will have the opportunity to ask the candidates questions.

The two contested seats are in Districts 1 and 3, now held by Diane Porter and Debbie Wesslund.

The forum is from 5:00-8:00pm today at the VanHoose Education Center.
