Ground was broken Tuesday for a new playground/sprayground in Shawnee Park.

It’s the result of a partnership between Louisville Metro Parks, the Olmstead Parks Conservancy and the DREAM Foundation, which works to raise money and build awareness about Duchene Muscular Dystrophy.

Mitch Barnes, whose son has the disease, started the DREAM Foundation and says the playground will be one of a kind.

“We are so tickled about this opportunity at Shawnee Park. I really want to think of this as really the crown jewel. It’s going to be something that generations from now people are going to look back and say you know they really had some vision there,”

The facility is for all children, but is fitted for those with disabilities.

Construction is set to begin this fall with completion scheduled for next spring.
