Representatives from Jefferson County Public Schools, the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Human Services and Family Court will participate Friday in a summit aimed at assisting homeless students, called “Homeless-Not Helpless.”
Metropolitan Housing Coalition Executive Director Cathy Hinko says there’s been a disturbing trend in student homelessness.
“More and more families have less and less and are unable to sustain themselves economically,” she said.
During the 2009-2010 school year, more than 10,000 students in Jefferson County were classified at some point as homeless.
The day-long event Friday at Hotel Louisville will include various presentations and discussions.
