For The 35th Straight Year, It's The Oak Ridge Boys

by Rick Howlett on August 21, 2010

The Oak Ridge Boys will perform Sunday evening at the Kentucky State Fair.  It will be their 35th straight annual performance in Louisville, 34 of them at the fair.

The quartet has appeared at more Kentucky State Fairs than any other entertainment act, and vocalist Duane Allen (second from right in photo) says it’s a streak the band is well aware of.

“Our record for the most consecutive dates in one place is the Kentucky State Fair,” Allen said in a telephone interview during a tour stop in Montana. “We’re at 31 straight dates at Merrillville, Indiana–the Holiday Star Theater there–but actually we opened that place.”

The Oak Ridge Boys are wrapping up a tour in support of their release, The Boys are Back.

Allen says a lot of the band’s relatives typically come up from Tennessee for the Kentucky State Fair show.

The Oak Ridge Boys perform at 8:00pm Sunday at Cardinal Stadium.  The concert is free, but fair admission is required.
