Strong Delivers Pep Talk At Football Luncheon

University of Louisville football coach Charlie Strong says he can’t predict how many games the Cards will win in his first year at the helm, but he’s promising fans that the team will always give their best effort.

Strong spoke to a record crowd at U of L’s annual football kickoff luncheon Tuesday.

“I can say this to you,” Strong said. “We will be an exciting football team. We will play hard, we will play hard, guys understand that, we will play hard, so we will do that.”

The former Florida defensive coordinator was hired late last year to replace Steve Kragthorpe, who was fired after three years and a 15-21 record at Louisville.

Athletic Director Tom Jurich told the crowd he’s convinced that he hired the right person for the job.

“There was only one guy on that list, and that was Charlie Strong. I did more due diligence on this hire than on all the hires I’ve made in my 26 year career put together, and i never came up with one negative about
him,” Jurich said.

U of L opens play September 4 against Kentucky.
