Hundreds of people stood in line Monday to apply for jobs at this year’s Kentucky State Fair. The jobs are temporary and pay starts at $7.25 an hour. Rocky Schildknecht, who was laid off from his full-time job, says he doesn’t mind working for that wage.

“I feel blessed because I know people that are sitting there losing their car and their homes everything due to pride they’re like I’m not going to work for ten dollars an hour when I was making 32.50. That entered my mind for like 48 hours. You know I have no choice in the matter. I’ve got to get up and do something,” he said.

The fair board plans to fill 450 temporary positions, including maintenance work, groundskeeping, tour guides and tram drivers. Applications are being accepted through August 29th. Those interested must apply in person at the Kentucky Exposition Center and be at least 18.
