Metro Parks has begun construction on six new tennis courts at Central Park in Louisville. The asphalt courts will replace the current tennis courts there.

Councilman George Unseld says the $350-thousand project is being funded by a number of allocations he’s secured in the last six city budgets. He says it’s a good project to fund in tough economic times.

“Everything is not gloom and doom,” says Unseld. “Yeah, we in a financial crunch. The economy is not in the pits, but it’s close. So what we trying to show is we on the way back.”

A community group is working to privately raise $150-thousand to fund bleachers and lights for the courts.

Metro Parks plans to complete the project by fall.
