UPS To Begin First Wave Of Pilot Furloughs

by Rick Howlett on May 19, 2010

United Parcel Service says the first wave of pilot furloughs announced earlier this year will take place in a few days.

UPS says it expects to furlough 54 pilots starting Sunday.

The package carrier and the Independent Pilots Association union said last year that they had agreed on an initial round of voluntary cost-saving measures that would forestall layoffs, but the two sides haven’t since come to terms on additional cuts.

The company’s Worldport hub is in Louisville, but officials have said the furloughs will be spread throughout its global network.
