by Rick Howlett on April 6, 2010

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear is offering the state’s condolences to the people of West Virginia in the wake of that state’s deadly coal mining disaster.

Spoksperson Kerri Richardson says Beshear spoke to West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin Monday night.

“The governor also offered any assistance they might need, including the option of using some of our mine rescue teams in their search and rescue effort,” she said.

Beshear said in a statement that state inspectors are on target to meet a June 14 deadline for making the required number of visits to Kentucky mines.
