JCPS Dismisses Early Thursday

by Rick Howlett on January 7, 2010

As local and state crews continue to clear snow from roads across the Louisville area, Jefferson County Public Schools officials announced they will dismiss classes one hour early Thursday.

All Jefferson County High School evening classes and testing were cancelled. Adult education afternoon and evening classes were called off as well.

JCPS Superintendent Sheldon Berman said Thursday morning that it’s always a difficult call when the weather turns bad during the morning commute, but he feels he made the right decision to keep schools open.

“I know it is hard for people and we try to be as safe as possible; we managed our routes very well this morning. Our bus drivers were very careful, they’ll be very careful on the way home,” Berman said.

JCPS officials say a decision on whether to have classes Friday will be made by 4:30am.
