TARC to Hold Meetings on Proposed Cuts This Week

The Transit Authority of River City – or TARC – will hold the first of six public meetings tomorrow on two-million dollars in proposed changes to routes.

TARC director Barry Barker announced last month the organization will have a budget shortfall because of lagging occupational tax revenues. He’s proposed the elimination of ten routes and cuts to 22 more, which would start in February.

Spokesperson Nina Walfoort says comments don’t have to be made in person.

“We weigh comments that come in by phone, by email and in person, they’re all weighted just the same,” says Walfoort. “People complain sometimes about how difficult it was to get to the hearing, well it’s just the same if they want to call in or email.”

The TARC Board of Directors is expected to take action on the proposals on Monday.
