Frazier Gives U Of L Funds For Rehab Faculty

by Gabe Bullard on October 9, 2009

A one point five million dollar donation from the chair of the University of Louisville Board of Trustees has put the school one step closer to creating a new department in the school of medicine.

Owsley Brown Frazier’s donation will create an endowed chair at the Frazier Rehabilitation Institute. The new faculty member will help recruit medical staff to U of L and the Rehab Institute.

University President James Ramsey says by adding more faculty with expertise in physical medicine, U of L can become a leader in rehabilitation.

“This gift is really part of a vision that we have at the University of Louisville, and that’s to take what’s currently a division at the university and create a department in physical medicine and rehabilitation and be one of the few medical centers anywhere that has such a department,” he says.

Over the years, Owsley Brown Frazier has donated some 500 million dollars to the university.
