A flash flood warning has been in effect most of Sunday night for the Louisville area, as heavy rains have caused flooding throughout the region, especially in southern Indiana, where police say some motorists had to be rescued from their vehicles. Rainfall amounts of four inches or more over several hours were reported in some southern Indiana counties.
Most of the warnings are set to expire around 1:00am.
In Louisville, there were reports of six inches of water flowing over Brownsboro Road and Lindsey Avenue, and flooding in other low lying areas. Motorists are advised to avoid areas where water covers the roadways.
Some parts of the region were under a tornado warning during the early evening hours, but no major damage was reported from that episode of turbulent weather.
