Abramson To Seek Lt. Gov. Post

by Gabe Bullard on July 19, 2009

Instead of seeking a third term as Metro Mayor next year, Jerry Abramson will run for Lieutenant Governor in 2011.

After 13 years as Mayor of the old city of Louisville and 6 years as Metro Mayor after the city-county merger, Abramson has decided to move on.

In a campaign video posted online, Abramson said he plans to serve the remainder of his current term.

“But I’ll also be traveling across Kentucky to hear from you about what you think government can and should be doing even better. Steve and I will be working together to develop strategies to grow Kentucky’s economy.”

Abramson’s term will be over at the end of next year. He has said the economic crisis has made this the hardest time to run the city.

Current Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo is seeking the Senate seat held by Republican Jim Bunning.
