New Kentucky Education Chief Could Be Named Today

by Rick Howlett on July 17, 2009

Kentucky’s next Commissioner of Education could be named today.

The state school board will meet in closed session this morning to assess the four finalists for the Kentucky Education Commissioner’s post. None of the finalists are from Kentucky.

Still in the running are Dennis Cheek of Pennsylvania; Michael Sentance of Concord, Massachusetts; Catherine Cross Maple of New Mexico; and Terry Holliday of Mooresville, North Carolina.

Former Kentucky Education Commissioner Jon Draud resigned last December for health reasons.

Throughout the search process for a new commissioner, which drew about 300 applicants, state school board chairman Joe Brothers has indicated a desire to have a new leader onboard by August 1st.

In the meantime, former deputy commissioner Kevin Noland has been serving as interim commissioner.
