Four candidates are in the running for the vacant post of Kentucky Education Commissioner.
Some 80 people applied for the job, which opened after the previous commissioner, Jon Draud, resigned in February for health reasons. On Thursday, the Kentucky Board of Education whittled the list down to four finalists. Chairman Joe Brothers says a new commissioner could be named at a meeting scheduled for July eighth.
“We could we’re down to decision making time, and so we could make the decision. Our plan is to not sign a contract until the 17th,” Brothers said.
He said the names of the finalists will be released, “as soon as possible.” He says background checks and candidate evaluations could continue right up until July 17.
