For the ninth consecutive year Kentucky will try to woo high-tech startups to the commonwealth during the annual Biotechnology Industry Organization conference.
Governor Steve Beshear is in Atlanta for the conference this week. He’ll be meeting with entrepreneurs and offering them incentives and grants to set up shop in Kentucky.
Beshear says the meetings usually pay off, but the economy has made business leaders wary about taking risks in starting up or relocating.
“Things are moving more slowly than they have in the past,” he says. “But we have a large number of prospects that we continue to court and continue to discuss with that we think ultimately will continue to land right here in Kentucky.”
Beshear says since 2006, Kentucky has attracted seven biotech companies.
