The Kentucky Attorney General’s Office is investigating complaints from people across the state about bogus phone calls regarding their car warranties.
A-G’s office spokesperson Allison Gardner Martin says they started receiving complaints in February about unsolicited calls claiming the recipient’s car warranty had expired or was about to expire – and offering to extend the warranty or purchase a new one.
“We found that a lot of folks would write down the number that showed up on the caller ID or on the cell phone, and when they called the person back and started asking questions, they would get hung up on,” says Martin, “which leads us to believe that we are dealing with some companies that are not legitimate.”
Martin says whoever is conducting the calls is breaking laws by calling people on the do-not-call list and by soliciting people on their cell phones.
