Nominations Underway for Kentucky Teacher of the Year

by scrosby on April 25, 2009

Nominations are now being accepted for Kentucky Teacher of the Year.

The deadline for nominations is May 15th.  Kentucky Department of Education spokesperson Lisa Gross anyone can nominate a teacher, and in the last few years the process has been easier because it’s available online.

She says once the nominations are in, a panel of education professionals chooses the semi-finalists.

“We try to have a wide range of folks on that committee who can look at what a teacher is doing and say yes, this is good, yes, this is innovative, yes, this teacher does the things we would like to see in a Teacher of the Year,” Gross says.

Judging will take place in September.  At the end of the process, 24 teachers in Kentucky will be awarded cash prizes, ranging from 500-dollars, to ten-thousand dollars for the Teacher of the Year.
