Louisville’s Norton Healthcare Foundation has received a $3 million dollar gift for the new Norton Neuroscience Institute.

The money comes from Ray and Mary Hass of Louisville, and will be used in part to endow a research chair for Parkinson’s disease, and a research chair for epilepsy.

Mary Hass says several family members have suffered from neurological disorders and brain injury, and she’s a former president and current legislative director of the Brain Injury Association of Kentucky.

“It really is my life’s work and I really will be actively involved …I”m not saying i’ll be so much with the chairs, but with the public policy and the advocacy part,  I really would like to continue in that work an my work with the Norton
Foundation,”  Mary Hass said Thursday.

The Hass family has operated an electronics business and a commercial real estate firm.

Norton recently announced the creation of its neuroscience institute, which will be developed over the next ten years.
