The Louisville Cardinals fell to the Connecticut Huskies 76 to 54 in the NCAA women’s basketball championship game Tuesday night in St. Louis.
The Huskies capped the most dominant season in women’s college basketball history, winning every one of their 39 games by double digits, and capturing their sixth NCAA title.
Angel McCoughtry had 23 points for Louisville, which lost to UCONN for the third time this season.
U of L coach Jeff Walz says he’s proud of his team’s performance.
“No one expected us to be here. No one really gave us much of a chance in this game. But I thought we fought. I thought we competed. And unfortunately it just did not go our way. And those are the things you’re going to have to deal with,” Walz said during his post-game press conference.
Louisville finishes the season with a record of 34-5.
