McAlpine Lock Replacement Work Complete

by Rick Howlett on April 8, 2009

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says its 10-year, $430 million McAlpine Lock replacement project is complete.

The Corps recently opened the second of two new 12-hundred foot locks on the Ohio River near downtown
Louisville.

Officials say the improvements will allow the heavy commercial traffic on the Ohio to move through the locks more efficiently.

The visitors area of the McAlpine Locks and Dam was closed as work was completed but is scheduled to reopen next month.
