UK Introduces Calipari As Next Coach

by Rick Howlett on April 1, 2009

The University of Kentucky has hired John Calipari to be the school’s next men’s basketball coach.

Calipari was introduced at a morning press conference today in Lexington.

UK Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart says Calipari signed an eight-year contract worth $31.65 million, making him the highest-paid college basketball coach in the nation.

Calipari, who just finished his ninth season as head coach at the University of Memphis, succeeds Billy Gillispie at UK.   Gillispie was fired last Friday after two seasons in Lexington.
