HomeGrown 01/04/09 – Animals in Winter & Peterson Field Guide

by Brad Yost on January 4, 2009

HomeGrown takes flight this week with a look at how birds – among other creatures – survive the bitter winter cold, and an interview about an updated, high-tech Peterson Field Guide to the Birds of North America. Anne Marie Smith of Morton Arboretum near Chicago explains the survival skills utilized by many animals to deal with frigid weather.  Lee Peterson, the son of Roger Tory Peterson, talks about how his father’s books have been melded into a new edition featuring video podcasts to help birders make accurate identifications in the field.
