'Postponed' Projects Not Likely to be Completed Soon

A large number of capital projects were ‘postponed’ this week when Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson announced his budget cuts to close a 20-million dollar budget gap. Three-point-six million dollars worth of projects have been halted to save the city money.

The largest number of those cancelled projects are in the Public Works Department. Director Ted Pullen says he doesn’t know when those projects will make it back on to the ‘to do’ list.

“A lot of that question comes back to when the economy turns around,” says Pullen, “because so much of our general fund money is based on payroll taxes and things a long that line, which the downturn in the economy is what’s making us have to postpone them.”

The cancelled Public Works projects include sidewalk improvements and bike and pedestrian improvements.

The Metro Parks, the Library and the zoo also had capital projects cancelled.
