University of Louisville officials are hoping to quash rumors surrounding former Education Dean Robert Felner.
Felner is currently being investigated by the federal government for his handling of grant money. A university panel is also looking into allegations that he helped a student get a degree after just one semester of study at U of L.
U of L Spokesperson John Drees says that topic has been particularly misreported.
“A report out of Washington D.C. yesterday stated that the committee had declared to the Southern Association of College and Schools that no wrongdoing had occurred in this incident,” says Drees.
Drees says the false report has been retracted and reports that the school may loose its accreditation over the degree are premature.
“We have been advised by both accrediting agencies, SACS and NCATE that the facts as we know them are not an accrediting issue,” he says.
The investigation into the degree will remain confidential until it’s completed.
