“In God We Trust,” may soon appear on Kentucky license plates.   Governor Steve Beshear says he will seek legislative approval for such plates next year.   He wants them to be a regularly priced alternative to the “Unbridled Spirit” plates started by former governor Ernie Fletcher. Both plates would cost $21.

“I just feel like the ‘In God We Trust’ motto is the national motto of this country. It belongs to every American. It belongs to every Kentuckian. And nobody should have to pay extra for that,” Beshear said.

Similar legislation offered this year by Rep. Jim Gooch unanimously passed the House, but died in the Senate. Nearly two million “In God We Trust” license plates have been sold in Indiana since their approval in 2006.
