Indiana GOP Panel To Choose Carson Opponent

A state Republican caucus is set for Friday in Indiana to choose a candidate to run against Democratic U.S. Representative Andre Carson this fall.

Carson won a special election in March to finish the unexpired term of his late grandmother Julia Carson, who died in December.

State Republican Party spokesperson Jay Kenworthy says a GOP committee will select a candidate to run against Carson in November.

“We want to get somebody who has been in the community for a while, has some experience working with the folks of district seven and someone who would be a good representative for them in Washington,”
Kenworthy said.

The 7th Congressional District includes Indianapolis.

The filing deadline to be considered by the committee is Tuesday. At least three candidates are seeking the nomination.
