Tasty Tap Water

Louisville boasts the nation’s best-tasting tap water, at least according to the American Water Works Association. They just announced the award at their annual conference.  Last year Oklahoma City took the top prize, and the year before that favored Champaign, IL (and no, they didn’t miss the opportunity to issue a press release proclaiming theirs the “champaign” of waters).

The judges are usually dining critics, representatives from other water utilities, and academics.  I wonder if they swirl and spit, like wine tasters.  And what would the palate cleanser, between competing glasses of water, be?  But I digress. Congrats, Louisville!

As for the quality of our drinking water, I haven’t begun any investigations into that.  However, I do know that, generally, tap water is incredibly safe, and far more regulated than bottled water.

A good point from my colleague Gabe Bullard: “You may want to mention that there are other national water tastings/rankings, too [such as this one].  St. Louis won one of them last year, prompting talk of a ban on non-local bottled water at city events. “
